For the second straight night, the Royals and Round Rock Express played extras, but Omaha came away victorious this time with a 5-4 decision at the Dell Diamond in eleven innings.
Catcher Jeff Howell, playing in just third Triple-A game, stroked a base hit off losing pitcher Roy Corcoran (0-4), knocking in the decisive run, David Lough, to break the tie in the top of the eleventh.
Lough singled to start the eleventh, moved to second on Jordan Parraz’ sacrifice bunt, and advanced to third on a Corcoran wild pitch. After Buck Coats was walked in intentionally, Howell hit the single off second baseman Drew Meyer’s glove into centerfield.
Down 1-0 in the sixth, the Royals snapped a fifteen-inning scoreless streak with a Jordan Parraz bases-loaded, bases-clearing double to give Omaha a 3-1 advantage.
The Royals, now 4-2 on their roadtrip, and play the third of the four-game set on Wednesday night at 7:05. Omaha right-hander Anthony Lerew (1-1), pitches against a Round Rock lefty Wesley Wright (0-0).
