President Obama has declared a major disaster for 35 counties in Nebraska impacted by spring flooding. Nebraska Farm Service Agency Executive Director Dan Steinkruger says the designation makes producers who experienced physical damages to farm property eligible for government assistance.
Steinkruger says, “It was localized to some specific areas within those counties but some of those areas did receive a substantial amount of damage and loss.” State officials estimate the damage at $10.8-million dollars.
Steinkruger says the declaration will also help several federal agencies provide financial assistance to those in effected counties. He says producers can check with FEMA and or their local Farm Service Agency offices for more details.
Included in the disaster declaration are several northeast Nebraska counties, including: Dakota, Madison, Thurston, Boyd, Holt, Cuming, Pierce and Platte.
