Buying that first home can be tough for many Nebraskans, there help is available to ease folks into the process. Central Nebraska Housing Developers, based in Chambers, has a new program underway that buys, remodels and then resells homes.
Judy Peterson, housing director for the agency, says her organization buys the house from the original seller, orchestrates the repairs according to the buyer’s needs and makes the home meet state standards, then sells the home to the buyer, in addition to providing financial assistance with the downpayment.
Peterson says the program has just kicked off. She says the first house sale was just completed, calling it a miraculous transition for a house and a great new start for a young couple. Peterson says eligibility is determined by income and that a family of four with 53-thousand dollars of income or less would qualify.
She says it’s more than just homes for families. It also helps to stabilize a community as homes are repaired and occupied. Peterson says they plan to buy and remodel five homes in the first round, but with a revolving loan fund, they plan to continue the program for several years.
The funds are available in Blaine, Boyd, Brown, Cherry, Custer, Garfield, Greeley, Hamilton, Holt, Howard, Keya Paha, Loup, Merrick, Rock, Sherman, Valley and Wheeler counties. For more information, call (402) 482-5711.
