When word got out Monday that Nebraskans can renew their driver’s licenses on-line, the DMV website exploded with requests. Director Beverly Neth says this is exactly what they wanted to happen. On Monday, 284 Nebraskans renewed their driver’s license and state I-D cards on-line. There were 23 people who applied for duplicate copies of their certificates.
Neth says residents can use the on-line service once every ten years. If they renew their license on-line, the next time it is due the driver has to go to the courthouse to renew the paperwork and go through the eye tests.
Neth adds there is a survey that residents are asked to fill out and the response has been excellent showing Nebraskans are pleased. There have been comments like “this is the best thing the government has ever done” to “I’ll tell everyone about it”.
Neth says this is also an excellent way to renew a license especially in the busier locations such as Lincoln, Omaha and Papillion. She says sometimes it takes over an hour to go through the process. By going on-line, a license can be renewed in about ten minutes.
Neth says there is an on-line survey regarding the new renewal process and the reaction has been outstanding. She says Nebraskans are pleased.
Once again, to qualify for on-line renewals, you must have the same address and same name as the previous license.
