Creighton won its 12th consecutive Missouri Valley Conference game with a 6-3 victory Tuesday afternoon at the CU Sports Complex. Tara Oltman tied a season-high with 13 strikeouts in the win, helping the Bluejays improve to 29-18 overall and 14-5 in MVC play.
Creighton scored in the bottom of the first inning, scoring a pair of two out runs. Amy Baker crushed a solo home run. It was her 12th of the year, extending her own CU freshman record. Michelle Graner followed with a four-pitch walk and scored Sara Loeffeholz’ triple to right center.
The Bulldogs took the lead with a three-run second inning. The Bluejays scored the tying run in their half of the second inning. Ashley Frutos blooped in a one-out double to right field to start the offense in motion in the second inning. With two outs, Michelle Koch singled up the middle to score pinch-runner Kari Sakamoto from second base to make the score 3-3 after two.
In the fifth inning, Jessi Jadlowski walked on four pitches to start the inning and her pinch-runner Danai Martin moved to second on Koch’s sacrifice bunt. Renae Sinkler was hit by a pitch and Baker was then beaned in the helmet to load the bases. With two outs, a wild pitch by DU hurler Brynne Dordel scored Martin from third with the go-ahead run. After Loeffelholz worked a walk to load the bases, Lauren Larson dropped a bloop single just in front of the diving DeLong in center field, scoring two more runs to put the Jays up 6-3.
The Bluejays have won 15 of their last 17 games, will look to extend their nine-game winning streak when they step out of conference play for the final time on Wednesday. Creighton travels to Lincoln to take on Nebraska today at 6 p.m.
