Nebraska State Patrol troopers were at the right place at the right time Monday when they arrested three suspected illegal immigrants that are apparently involved in a large shoplifting scheme in Omaha.
“They were actually working another undercover operation in the area and they just happened to come upon suspicious activity that led them to the three individuals.”
Omaha Lt. Scott Kracl says the a vehicle in a motel parking lot near 108th and L” Streets tipped them off that the suspects were staying at that location. He says the three were cooperative.
“Once the subjects were contacted, they gave permission to speak to them further and look through their room.”
Over 12-thousand dollars worth of merchandise was found inside the motel room. Items included over-the-counter medication, toys and small electronic items. Lt. Kracl says the three are likely here illegally.
“They were suspected to be here illegally and we are working with ICE in order to determine all that. At this point they seem to be here illegally, yes.”
One of the suspects is from Mexico and two from Honduras. Authorities are now investigating a number of shoplifting reports in both Omaha and Lincoln to see if the three are connected in any way.
