Nebraska U.S. Senator Ben Nelson is defending his right not to support the current financial reform package. He says it is not because Warren Buffet does not support the proposed changes. Nelson says rumors have been directed at him claiming he has shown favoritism to Buffett’s Birkshire Hathaway.
“I did not vote no because of Birkshire Hathaway, nor did the fact that I and my wife Diane have owned Birkshire stock for 30 plus years, that has nothing to do with my vote, It’s never been an issue, and it isn’t now!”
Nelson says he is voting no on the financial reform package because of concerns about what is in the underlying bill, and because the banking committee is working on a bi-partisan alternative which he has not yet seen.
