Four Neb. newspapers prep “apps” for mobile devices

April 30, 2010 By Nebraska Radio Network Contributor

The Iowa company that owns Nebraska newspapers in Lincoln, Beatrice, Columbus and Fremont will soon be able to boast, “There’s an app for that.”

Davenport-based newspaper publisher Lee Enterprises is teaming up with a Kansas City firm.

The company, Handmark, will develop and maintain mobile applications for Lee’s newspaper and online media properties.

Lee’s Greg Schermer says the app will enable Lee to deliver a new level of convenience for readers, bringing instant news and information to their mobile devices. And he says it opens the door for additional revenue.

The publisher has more than 50 daily papers and online sites, plus 300 specialty publications in 23 states. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch was the first Lee property to launch a new Cardinals Baseball 2010 mobile app.
