The Omaha Royals make it seven straight over the Iowa Cubs with a 3-1 win last night in Des Moines. The winning streak for the Royals goes back to the 2009 season.
For seven innings, Iowa pitcher J. R. Mathes was in control as he had allowed no runs and just two hits. In the seventh, Kila Ka’aihue got the Royals going as he hit a single.
That would be followed by a home run off the bat of Jordan Parraz that put the Royals up 2-1. The long ball broke an 0-17 slump for Parraz.
Omaha was not done, as Jai Miller doubled and later scored on a single off the bat of Scott Thorman. This put the Royals in control to stay.
Omaha’s Federico Castaneda would throw three scoreless innings and would pick up the first win of his career at Triple A. Blake Wood would pitch a perfect ninth inning for the Royals and get his fourth save of the season.
The Royals and the Cubs will play the third game of their four game series tonight as Omaha will send Bryan Bullington to the hill against Iowa’s Jay Jackson.
Game time is 6:35.
