It is the first time a Nebraskan will receive one of the highest honors given to foreign nationals by the government of Japan. Dr. Ronald is one of eleven people from around the world receiving the award from the Japanese Prime Minister at the Imperial Palace on Friday.
“After the 11 recipients have gotten the award, we are all ushered into an audience with the emperor.”
Dr. Roskens served as the University of Nebraska-Omaha chancellor and University President in the 1970’s. He says this award is very much an honor.
“It was a total surprise to me and, of course, I’m deeply honored.”
Most recently, Dr. Roskens served as honorary Consul General of Japan in Omaha.
