The Lincoln Saltdogs dropped their season opener on Thursday, falling 12-2 at Sioux Falls. Lincoln managed only three hits in the contest.
The score stood at just 3-2 heading into the eighth inning, but Sioux Falls put the game away with a historically huge inning. The Pheasants loaded the bases with one out for Eddy Rodriguez, who had homered earlier in the game to put his team ahead. Rodriguez drove a 1-1 pitch out to left for a grand slam and a 7-2 lead. The next three batters all hit soft singles, reloading the bases and bringing up Reggie Abercrombie. The former big-leaguer deposited a 1-2 pitch just over the wall of the short porch in left field for the Pheasants’ second grand slam of the inning. Brandon Sing capped the nine-run inning with a solo homer, his second of the night.
