Tonight the high school girls soccer championships take place at Morrison Stadium in Omaha beginning with the Class B final between Gretna 18-1 and Omaha Skutt 16-3 at 5 p.m.. Following the B game, the Class A girls square off as Omaha Marian at 16-3 faces Omaha Westside at 18-4.
The NAIA’s original decision will stand and Bellevue will finish the year with a 2-40 overall mark and an 0-20 league record. The Bruins were scheduled to host the Midland’s Collegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament in Omaha last week, but did not play. They would have been the top seed.
Sara Wissing of Nebraska-Kearney finished 58th in the D-II women’s golf national championship. Nate Jaeger of Nebraska Wesleyan finished tied for 42nd in the men’s Division III golf championship.
Former Nebraska star Kelsey Griffin had eight points as the Connecticut Sun beat the Chicago Sky 74-61 in the WNBA opener for both teams. Griffin, who was 1 for 7 from the field and 6 for 7 on free throws, also had 10 rebounds.
