Kyle Nowka’s game-winning overtime goal gave Lincoln East a 4-2 win against Omaha South to complete the Spartans’ perfect 24-0 season and give the school its state-best sixth state championship in Class A. Jake Ramsay scored for the 33rd time this season early in the second half and Lincoln Pius X held on for a 1-0 win over Hastings in the boys Class B state soccer championship match.
In the Class A game, Nowka’s winner came 3:37 into the 20-minute overtime period. East looked like it had the match won despite playing one-man down for 10 minutes, but Omaha South tied the match with three minutes to play.
Ramsay, who will become Nebraska-Omaha’s kicker on the football team, scored 2 minutes, 39 seconds into the second half and the Thunderbolts added a title to go with one in 2006. The school was in the final for the fourth time in five years, with runner-up finishes in 2007 and ’08.
