Coinciding with Bike to Work Week, a new study places Nebraska 43rd overall in the nation’s Bike Friendly State rankings.
The report from the League of American Bicyclists is based on a 95-item questionnaire that evaluates a state’s commitment to bicycling in a half-dozen key areas.
Nebraska ranks in the 20s for infrastructure, from bike lanes to bike trails, and for enforcement. We’re in the 40s in categories like education, pro-cycling legislation and evaluation, and dead last, 50th for policies and programs.
This is the third year for the rankings. Nebraska, now at 43rd, fell six places from 37th last year and was 34th in 2008.
