The York Panthers won their opening round game of the NAIA National Championship against Avila University with a 10-run rule. In the top of the 7th inning, York College closed out the Eagles 11-1 with MCAC Pitcher of the Year Bruce Amende (12-0) throwing a complete 4-hit game.
The bats were hot early for York as they scored six in the first inning and had 11 hits on the day. MCAC Player of the Year Justin Lunday hit two homeruns and had four RBI’s for the Panthers.
York’s next game will be Wednesday at 2:30 pm against the #1 seed in the bracket, Lubbock Christian University (44-13). All games are played at Hays Field on the Lubbock Christian University campus in Lubbock, Texas.
York won the MCAC baseball tournament last week in three straight to clinch the conference title. The Panthers, under head coach Nick Harlan and associate head coach Brian Walth, are 45-7 on the season.
