The high school baseball championships take place today at Haymarket Park in Lincoln. The Class A tennis tournament adjusts it’s schedule, plus fallout from one of the soccer championship matches.
Creighton Prep (24-11) knocked out Millard South 7-2 in Class A play to face Papillion LaVista South (27-6) at 10am at Haymarket Park in Lincoln. Creighton Prep will need to win two games today. In Class B, Omaha Gross beat Nebraska City 11-3 and Gretna 6-0 to get to the finals today against Omaha Skutt (20-7). It’s been quite a run for Gross who is 13-14 on the year.
With rain in the forecast today in Omaha, NSAA officials postponed the first day of the Class A girls state tennis tournament. Matches that were to begin today will now begin Friday at Tranquility Park in Omaha. The finals, normally held on Friday, will now be played Monday. The Class B tournament in Lincoln will be played as scheduled.
Several Lincoln East High School students were suspended for making or throwing out fake “green cards” onto the field after the championship soccer game against Omaha South. Sixty percent of Omaha South’s students are Latino and the green cards an apparent reference to immigration status. East won the soccer game 4-2 and school officials at East are taking the matter seriously. Officials for Omaha South says this type of activity has happened in the past.
