Mark Trumbo, ranked by Baseball America as the best power-hitting prospect in the Los Angeles Angels’ organization, hit a three-run homer to break a 3-3 tie, to give the Salt Lake Bees a 6-3 win over Omaha at Rosenblatt Stadium.
Trumbo’s eighth home run of the season came in the seventh inning off Matt Herges (1-2) after the Royals reliever had intentionally walked PCL RBI-leader Cory Aldridge to put runners at first and second with one out.
Salt Lake (20-19), which began the night one game behind first-place Colorado Springs in the PCL’s Pacific Conference North, won for the fifth time in six games. Omaha (18-20) lost for the fifth time in its last six contests at home to fall to 6-13 at Rosenblatt.
The second game of the four-game series and 12-game homestand is Friday at 7:05 p.m. The pitching matchup has Salt Lake lefty Trevor Reckling (3-2, 6.21) facing Omaha right-hander Luis Mendoza (1-2, 4.22).
