State Auditor Mike Foley says thousands more dollars are missing from a National Guard training facility than originally thought. Foley says an audit covering July 2007 through January 2010 shows more than $21,000 is missing. Foley has recommended Camp Ashland implement controls to prevent future thefts.
“They need to have more checks and balances in place, not one person controlling all these transactions, but have a second person or even a third person should be involved in reconciling this account, to make sure there is proper oversight, remember there are a lot of cash transactions.”
A former administrative assistant at Camp Ashland, 34 year old Mandy Juedes, was arrested in January on suspicion of stealing nearly $2,000 from the facility.
