The Lincoln Saltdogs earned their second road sweep in a row Sunday, beating Fort Worth 2-0 at LaGrave Field. Lincoln improves to 6-4 on the season.
Fort Worth had no answer for Lincoln starter Chris Britton (2-1). The former big leaguer tossed seven shutout innings, walking one and striking out a season-high five while allowing just six hits. The Cats left a runner in scoring position in four of Britton’s seven innings, but the big right-hander pitched out of it every time.
Lincoln, meanwhile, won despite not recording an RBI in the contest. The Saltdogs loaded the bases with two out in the first inning, and scored their first run when a grounder went under the glove of third baseman Rob Recuenco for an error. The ‘Dogs plated their second run in the eighth inning, when they advanced a runner to third with two out. Gavin Dickey grounded to third, but Recuenco threw wide to first for his second error, allowing Roberto Alvarez to score. The Cats committed four errors overall in the game, and a total of seven in the three-game series.
Fort Worth’s best chance to score came in the eighth inning, when they loaded the bases with two out. Adam Daniels escaped the frame by striking out Michael Bell. Chris Thompson pitched around a one-out double in the ninth to earn his third save of the series and fifth save overall.
Alvarez finished the game 2-for-3 with a stolen base and a run scored. Chris Brown and Phil Hawke also had a pair of hits for Lincoln, while Gavin Dickey stole two bases.
After an off-day on Monday, Lincoln opens the home schedule against Wichita Tuesday night at 7:05. Right-hander Tim Brown will take the mound for the Saltdogs.
