The first holiday of the summer is this weekend and many people are dusting off their camping gear to head to the great outdoors. Nebraska Game and Parks Commission spokesman Greg Wagner says there are campsites available but you need to be quick on the draw.
“We have half our sites in the state parks system are reservable. The other half are first come-first serve upon arrival.”
Wagner says if you want a good spot, you can pick it out now but there are some regulations in place.
“You will physically need to attend the site that you have picked out one time in 24 hours and you will have to put something up, a tent for example.”
Wagner says the Game and Parks Commission says park permits are required. To avoid waiting in long lines, you can buy those permits on-line.
“Website to buy it, Game and Parks website, outdoor Nebraska dot org… Outdoor Nebraska.org.”
Wagner says if you are having trouble finding a place to camp, there are always options where space is always available. Indian Cave State Park and Ponca are two sites that space is always available.
