Make it six straight wins for the Omaha Royals as they beat the Round Rock Express Friday night at Rosenblatt Stadium. It would take 14 innings, but the Royals beat the Express 6-5.
This would be a come from behind win for Omaha as they would be trailing 5-2 in the seventh. That is when they got some help from the Express. Round Rock would commit three errors which would lead to three Royals runs and a 5 all tie.
The Royals did have their chances to win the game before the 14th. In the bottom of the 13th, Alex Gordon hit a long fly ball that hit the top of the wall. Gordon ended up at second with a double. Royals manager Mike Jirschele thought the ball had hit something beyond the wall and came back into play, but the umpire’s original call would stand.
In the 14th, after a walk to Kila Ka’aihue, the Express would retire the next two batters. But Jai Miller would hit a double off the left center field wall to win the game.
The Omaha bullpen of Federico Castaneda, Blaine Hardy, Josh Rupe and Greg Holland worked nine innings of scoreless baseball. Holland would pick up the win for the Royals.
Game two of the four game set is Saturday night. Anthony Lerew will try for his fourth win of the season for Omaha.
First pitch is 7:05.
