The Omaha Royals had their eight game win streak snapped and Luis Mendoza had a personal three start win streak snapped, as the Round Rock Express scored three runs in the second inning off Mendoza in a 4-2 win at Rosenblatt Stadium.
Mendoza (3-3), who posted a 1.00 ERA (two earned runs in 18 innings) during his winning streak, gave up five hits in the second inning, including a two-run homer by Round Rock’s Marcos Cabral.
Round Rock lefty Polin Trinidad (3-2) worked out of some early jams, thanks to a couple of Omaha mistakes on the base paths. Trinidad pitched eight innings and allowed two runs on five hits, walking three and striking out one.
Omaha is now 27-22 and finished with a 9-3 homestand. Tonight, the Royals make their first visit of the season to New Orleans. The pitching matchup has Royals righty Gaby Hernandez (3-4, 6.59) vs. lefty Sean West, who will be making a rehab assignment start for the Florida Marlins.
