Omaha made it nine wins in their last ten games by pounding out 14 hits in a 9-2 victory over New Orleans at Zephyr Field to take the series opener.
Every Omaha Royal batter had at least one hit, including Alex Gordon who went 2 for 4 with a run scoring double and homer to extend his hitting streak to nine games. The Lincoln Southeast grad is now hitting .376 with nine homers, 25 RBIs in just 27 games. Outfielder David Lough also extended a hitting streak to eleven games with a two-run homer in the ninth off Zephyr reliever Jose Veras.
Gabby Hernandez (4-4) picked up the win by pitching seven innings allowing just two runs. The Royals right-hander walked just one and matched a season-high six strikeouts.
Omaha, now 28-22, will play the second game of their four-game series with New Orleans on Wednesday night. Omaha righthander Bryan Bullington (2-0) duels against Zephyr right-hander Rick Vandenhurk (4-2).
