The Omaha Royals jumped all over New Orleans starter Rick VandenHurk scoring nine times in the first three innings en route to a 10-5 win over the Zephyrs, winning for the 10th time in 11 games.
Irving Falu, David Lough and Kila Ka’aihue led a 16-hit attack with three hits apiece. Already up in the third, 5-1, the Royals batted around scoring four more runs against Vandenhurk (4-4), who lasted just 2.1 innings, allowing nine hits, nine runs, eight earned to suffer the loss.
Royals reliever Blaine Hardy (1-0) pitched three innings of scoreless relief to pick up his first Triple-A win of his career. The lefty allowed just one hit and struck out five. Chris Hayes pitched the last three innings for his second save.
