Plattsmouth in Cass County is turning a federal mandate into a large scale renovation project. City Administrator Irv Portis says they will be focusing on Plattsmouth’s main street. The first phase, which is a sewer separation project is already underway and they are dovetailing off it are other projects. That includes tearing out all of the sidewalks in the downtown area and replacing the gas mains.
Another huge improvement is a new street light project. Portis says they may be the first community in the state to light the entire downtown area with LED energy efficient lighting.
Much of the city’s portion of the project is being financed through a voter approved sales tax increase. Plattsmouth also slightly increased the sewer use fee to fund the improvements.
