The city of Papillion is trying to decide whether to join Gretna and La Vista in allowing bars to stay open until 2 am. Papillion Mayor David Black says since neighboring La Vista and Gretna have already taken advantage of the new state law, he favors the 2 am closing time. He says this will keep people off the roads traveling to another location for another hour of bar time. He adds it is a public safety issue as they have bars literally blocks or a mile away from each other that have different closing times. He says having a consistent closing time is the best option.
Mayor Black says most of the comments from people he has talked to see this as an issue of public safety so he anticipates the bar closing time amendment will probably change. A public hearing is set for June 15th and if approved would go into effect on July 14th.
