A man walking a dog near the new Veterans Memorial Bridge this past weekend saw quite a sight… a large snake along the walking and biking path. Pam Wiese is the spokesperson for the Nebraska Humane Society and says they were called and could see the snake inside the pipe. They contacted experts at the Henry Doorly Zoo and came up with a plan on how to get the large snake out pipe without anyone getting hurt. They decided the best way was to flush it out with water. When the snake came out, they picked it up and took to the Nebraska Humane Society.
The snake is a Columbian Red Tailed Boa that is approximately six-feet long and 5 or 6 inches around. The snake was taken to the Humane Society and its future looks pretty bright. Wiese says it was probably someone’s pet and either they released it or it escaped. When it gets a clean bill of health, it will likely be put up for adoption.
