The Omaha Police Department is joining forces with 11 community groups and organizations in sponsoring a gun amnesty program this coming Saturday. Officer Jacob Bettin says the goal is to get firearms off the streets that could potentially fall into the hands of criminals and used to commit felonies.
All unwanted and illegal guns can be dropped off with no questions asked at the Bethel Baptist Church near 30th and Q Streets from 10am until 2pm. Bettin says this is a chance for even criminals to come forward without fear of prosecution. Citizens also wanting to get rid of unwanted guns can also drop them off.
