Oklahoma City lefty and Texas Rangers prospect Michael Kirkman threw seven more scoreless innings to lead the RedHawks to a 6-0 victory over the Omaha Royals Tuesday afternoon. Kirkman has now gone 15 innings without allowing a run against Omaha.
Kirkman (6-1) gave up just three hits, walking one and striking out a season-high nine to take over the Pacific Coast League lead in strikeouts with 64 on the season. Michael Ballard finished up the four-hitter by retiring six of the seven Omaha batters he faced as the RedHawks took three of four games in the series.
Kansas City outfielder Rick Ankiel began a rehab assignment with Omaha Tuesday as the designated hitter and struck out in all four of his at-bats. It was the first game action for Ankiel since May 3, who has been on the disabled list with a strained right quad.
