Day one of NCAA outdoor track and field championships

Senior Epley Bullock (high jump) and sophomore Tyler Hitchler (discus) became Nebraska’s first All-America award winners of the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, as each earned the honor on the first day of the national meet in Eugene, OR. Nine Huskers competed in five events on Wednesday, with a total of 22 NU athletes set to participate throughout the four-day meet.

Chantae McMillan is sixth and Megan Wheatley 12th after the first day of the heptathlon. Freshman Morgan Wilken finished 11th in the women’s discus to join Hitchler who also finished 11th on the men’s side and the Nebraska’s men’s 4×100-meter relay team of Dan Christensen, Dax Danns, Lukas Hulett and Scott Wims finished fifth in its semifinal heat and did not advance to the finals.
