Campers at Haworth Park in Bellevue along Highway 370 have been told to leave because of rising waters from the nearby Missouri River. Les Gordon of Lincoln was one of the many campers over the weekend and kept in close contact with the park manager.
“He has been kinda keeping us posted all the way along. He said don’t wait till noon.”
Gordon says the word came out this morning that campers needed to leave the park.
“He said there is water in the park and you will need to leave and don’t wait till noon.”
Gordon sensed that high water would force the closing of the park’s campgrounds as she and others watched the Missouri River rise above its banks.
“We’ve been watching it rise over by the levy and I figured we would be going today one way or the other.”
The high water forced park workers to pull the public dock ramp back because it had been almost completely submerged.
