Albuquerque leads the Pacific Coast League with a team batting average of .309 and proved why by pounding out 16 hits in a 14-6 rout of the Omaha Royals at Isotopes Park. The Isotopes have now taken two of the first three games of the series.
Luis Mendoza (4-5), was touched for eight runs on ten hits in five-plus innings to suffer the loss. Albuquerque third basemen Russ Mitchell had three hits, including a pair of homers. Alex Gordon went 2-for-5 with a RBI to extend his consecutive on-base streak to 36 games. Gordon did however strike out three times, including the sixth inning against lefthander Juan Perez with the tying run on in scoring position.
Omaha will wrap up the series, and first leg of the marathon roadtrip, in Albuquerque by sending former Isotope Gaby Hernandez (5-4) against Albuquerque righthander Claudio Vargas (0-0).
