All-Star football game recaps

June 21, 2010 By Bill Pollock

A record setting and record tying performance by a quarterback highlighted the eight-man all-star game and a defensive performance that would make Ndamukong Suh proud highlighted the Shrine Bowl.

There was no stopping Shaquil Barrett of Boys Town on Saturday night. The defensive lineman single handedly shut down the North’s squad offense. For his efforts, Barrett was named the Shrine Bowl’s MVP on Saturday night at Memorial Stadium. Barrett had 11 tackles, three sacks, a blocked field goal, partially blocked punt and a forced fumble in the South’s 28-13 win over the North.

In the eight man game, offense is the name of the game and that belonged to quarterback Trevor Wells of Medicine Valley High, who threw a record 17 of 18 passes for 148 yards and a record tying three touchdowns in the West’s 43-12 win in the Eight Man All Star Classic in Hastings.
