A Sidney man is dead following an officer involved shooting Sunday morning. 28 year old Marko Antonio Panduro was pronounced dead Sunday afternoon at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff after being shot by Sidney officer Randy VerMass while trying to diffuse a domestic dispute.
According to a search warrant application, officers were called to the residence by Panduro’s girlfriend, Dawna Serkiz, who said Panduro was threatening himself and others with a gun. Panduro allegedly confronted VerMaas with the gun and refused to put it down. Cheyenne County Attorney Paul Schaub says VerMass fired two shots.
VerMaas is on paid administrative leave pending the investigation.
An autopsy was being performed Monday morning.
Serkiz says Panduro spent Saturday night in a Monte Carlo in front of the house, came in Sunday morning and passed out in the basement. She says he sent her a text message warning shortly before the incident.
Serkiz says Panduro was bi-polar but did not take medication to treat it.
Schaub is requesting a special prosecutor be assigned to the case and a grand jury will review the incident per state law.
