A motorcyclist was airlifted to the Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha in critical condition following an accident in Sarpy County this morning.
“The person was along Platteview road around 4:30 in the morning and he struck a deer.”
Sheriff’s Lt. Steve Grabowski says this are is known for having a large deer population.
“There are fields and things like that on either side of the road.”
Lt. Grabowski says drivers and motorcyclists should be aware that deer start moving again in the early morning and evening hours.
“Early in the morning is when the deer start to feed again so we have to realize at the break of dawn is when they are going to be out.”
Lt. Grabowski says any time you are out and about during those hours and are outside the city limits, keep a close watch for deer.
“A lot of green vegetation that the deer are going to be eating so be aware of your surroundings.”
The cyclist was wearing a helmet. His name has not been released.
