With sweep, Saltdogs one game out of first

June 25, 2010 By Bill Pollock

The Lincoln Saltdogs swept Sioux Falls with a 7-3 win Thursday night to move to within one game out of first place.

Saltdogs starter Tim Brown (5-2) held Sioux Falls to four hits in his eight innings. The Pheasants scored single runs in the second, fourth and sixth innings.

Lincoln got to Sioux Falls starter Ryan Rodriguez (4-2) in the bottom of the third inning, scoring four runs on five hits. The Pheasants’ runs in the fourth and sixth pulled them to 4-3, but Shawn McGill hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth, and Chris Brown followed with a solo shot. Tim Brown retired the last seven batters he faced, and Nolan Chestnut threw a perfect ninth inning.

The Saltdogs close to within a game of the first-place Pheasants in the American Association North. Both teams have ten games remaining in the first half, including Lincoln’s three-game series at Sioux Falls next week.
