Supporters of tanning took to the steps of the State Capitol in Lincoln to protest a new 10% tanning tax that goes into effect today. Dana Morinelli was there to protest the tax increase and is worried about the industry she loves.
“To let the Senators know that we are unhappy with this and they picked on the wrong industry ebcause we’re going to fight it, we didn’t have any say on it, they didn’t do any research on it, they just slid it in there.”
Morinelli says the tax was supposed to be a a five-percent tax on botox procedures, but at the last minute was changed. Supporters say that tanning can be dangerous and cancer causing. Opponents of the tax say that tanning is the best way to get vitamin D and is helpful for those with some skin disorders.
