After 17 games in 18 days, the Omaha Royals return to Rosenblatt Stadium after defeating the Iowa Cubs 6-3 in front of 10,009 fans at Principal Park in Des Moines. The Royal finished the road trip with a 9-8 record.
The Royals broke a 3-3 tie in the sixth inning as Cubs reliever John Gaub (3-3) walked two batters that both came around to score. The first on a Jordan Parraz single, and the second on a balk committed by Gaub to give the Omaha a 5-3 lead.
Jai Miller added a 9th inning solo homer, his ninth of the year, to complete the scoring.
Royals starter Bryan Bullington (5-1) pitched five innings of three-run ball to pick up his third win versus the Cubs this year.
Royals relievers Greg Holland and Blaine Hardy held the I-Cubs scoreless over the last four innings. Hardy notched his third save of the season.
The Royals, who won six of the eight games in Des Moines, continue their home-and-home series vs. the Iowa Cubs on Friday Night at 7:05 CDT at Rosenblatt Stadium.
