The Omaha Royals were trying to continue their dominance over the Iowa Cubs last night at Rosenblatt Stadium, but that was not to be as the Cubs beat the Royals 5-3. It was just the third time in 10 meetings this season that Iowa had defeated Omaha.
The Cubs were led by Micah Hoffpauir who would hit three extra base hits, including a two run homerun in the first inning. He would come back in the eighth and hit an RBI double as part of a three run inning for the Cubs.
Scott Thorman would be the offense for the Royals. He would drive in the first run for the Royals with an RBI double in the sixth. In the eighth, he hit a two run homerun, his 14th of the season, to cut the Iowa lead to 5-3.
The Royals would have a chance in the ninth, as they had two on and two out. Alex Gordon, recently selected to the PCL All-Star team, would be at the plate and would strike out to end the game.
The last game of the series will be tonight as Gaby Hernandez goes for his sixth win. The Cubs will counter with Mitch Atkins.
Game time is 6:35.
