The Nebraska Juniors 161s, a 16U volleyball squad won the open division at the USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championships on Saturday in Reno Nevada. The squad is only the second in state history to win a girls open division national volleyball championship. Last year’s Nebraska Juniors 18s team, led by current Huskers Lauren Cook and Gina Mancuso, won the open title in that age division. Sisters Kadie and Amber Rolfzen who attend Papillion La-Vista South and are NU recruits led the way with Kadie being named tournament MVP and Amber named to the all-tournament team.
John Hurley of O’Neill beat Brandon Crick of McCook 5 and 3 in the Nebraska men’s match play golf championship at the Omaha Country Club. With the win, the Texas A & M star became just the third golfer to win three match-play titles and the second to win the event in consecutive years.
The Lincoln Journal Star is reporting through multiple sources that former Nebraska All-American and 14-year major-leaguer Darin Erstad is set to join the Husker baseball as a volunteer assistant coach. Official announcement could come as early as tomorrow. Erstad was a two-time All-Star and gold glover who played with Houston, the White Sox and the Angels where he was a number one draft pick in 1995.
