Former Nebraska teammates Kayla Knopik and JC Stevenson are paired in today’s qualifying round for the Women’s Amateur State Match-Play Golf Championship. Knopik is the defending champion at the event that is taking place at Firethorn Golf Club. Stevenson is this year’s stroke play champ and three other past champions make up the qualifying field of 22. They will be cut down to 16 for this afternoon’s first round matches. The quarterfinals and semifinals are Wednesday, with the final match set for Thursday morning.
For the first time in it’s 33 year history, the American Junior Golf Association is holding an event in Nebraska, at Quarry Oaks near Ashland today. 18 of the 78 golfers in the field are Nebraskans. Golfers from 19 states will be here for the 54 hole event which runs through Thursday.
