34 year old Veteran Brian Lawrence (8-5) pitched 6.1 scoreless innings for the New Orleans Zephyrs while walking one and striking out four to pick up his second win to beat the Royals for a second time this year in a 5-0 final. Lawrence was a 15 game winner back in 2004 with the San Diego Padres.
It was one bad inning that cost the Royals. The New Orleans Zephyrs sent nine men to the plate in the sixth inning, scoring five runs, capped by a three run homer from Logan Morrison. Royals starter Manauris Baez, who allowed just one hit in five innings, allowed a homer to Zephyr catcher Brad Davis on the first pitch of the sixth. The next three hitters all singled off Baez, who left trailing 2-0 and had his 14-inning scoreless streak.
