Ed Lucas hit two homers and a double and drove in three runs to lead the Omaha Royals to a 7-2 win over the New Orleans Zephyrs to snap a four-game losing streak at home ballpark.
Lucas hit his first homer, a two-run shot in a four run first inning off Zephyr starter Wes Whisler (0-2). In his next at-bat, Lucas took Whisler deep to lead off the fourth inning to make it a 5-0 game. Royals catcher Manny Pina, in just his second Triple-A game, had three hits, including a ninth inning homer.
Royals starter Bryan Bullington (6-1) pitched into the seventh inning, allowing seven hits, two runs, one walk and struck out five to get the victory. The Royals, conclude their series vs. New Orleans on Wedensday morning at 11:30 CDT at Zephyr Field. Royals righty Luis Mendoza (5-7) faces Z’s lefty Sean West (3-2).
