During the month of June, 25 persons were killed in traffic accidents on Nebraska roads. The Nebraska Department of Roads reports that eighteen of the twenty-one occupants in vehicles were not wearing seat belts. Five fatalities happened on the Interstate, ten on highways and ten on local roads. Fourteen of the fatalities happened in single vehicle run-off-road accidents. Two of the fatalities were pedestrians and two were motorcyclists. One fatality involved a collision with a train.
In June of 2009, there were eleven fatalities on Nebraska roadways. So far in 2010, there have been 84 fatalities involving motor vehicle accidents and a total of 76 fatal crashes. June was the highest month for traffic fatalities since August of 2009, when 28 people were killed.
