Lincoln was held hitless through the first seven innings, and fell behind 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh on a two-run single by Steve Pearson, but rallied to be Wichita 3-2.
The Saltdogs, got to Wichita starter Gabe Medina (3-5) in the eighth. Roberto Alvarez broke up the no-hitter with a double down and Pat Trettel followed with a home run to put Lincoln in front for good. Setup man Adam Daniels struck out all three batters he faced in the eighth, and closer Chris Thompson pitched a perfect ninth for his 17th save.
The rally made a winner out of Lincoln starter Chris Cullen (2-2), who pitched seven innings holding the Wingnuts scoreless through the first six. He finished allowing just two runs on four hits while striking out four. Lincoln gave him a first-inning run when Albenis Machado walked, stole second and scored on a throwing error. Medina then retired 18 of the next 19 Saltdogs he faced, striking out eight, before Lincoln’s eighth-inning rally.
