Memphis Redbirds’ starter Lance Lynn held Omaha hitters down over his 6.2 innings, while striking out eleven, the best by a Royals opposing starter this year in a 3-2 win for Memphis.
One bright spot for Omaha came in the fifth inning when the Royals were down 3-0 in the fifth. Mike Moustakas hit his first Triple-A homer off Lynn to right field. In the seventh, Kila Ka’aihue walked, stole second, and scored on an Ed Lucas hit.
Gaby Hernandez took the loss, allowing three runs in five innings, including a two-run homer to St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Ryan Ludwick, here on a rehab assignment, in the first inning.
The Royals plays the third of their four-game series in Memphis against the Redbirds on Wednesday night at 7:05 CDT. Royals righty Luis Mendoza (5-7) will make the start.
