The Lincoln Saltdogs let a big lead slip away late losing 10-9 to the Wichita Wingnuts in ten innings. Just as they did in the series opener, the Saltdogs scored seven runs in the first two innings, but were clinging to an 8-6 lead in the ninth.
Ryan Patterson hit a three-run home run to give Wichita a 9-8 lead, but Rafael Alvarez tied it in the bottom of the ninth with a solo home run off of Wingnuts closer Justin Dowdy (2-1). Wichita scored the winning run in the tenth on a leadoff double, a sacrifice bunt and a sacrifice fly against Lincoln reliever Tycen PoVey (0-1).
Gavin Dickey lead Lincoln going 2-for-4 with his 12th home run and a pair of RBI. Phil Hawke’s grand slam was his eighth homer of the season, while Nunez hit his eleventh and Alvarez his sixth. Pat Trettel went 2-for-5 with two runs scored.
The two teams play game two of their three-game series Wednesday night at 7:05pm. Right-hander Jim Paduch will make the start for the Saltdogs.
