It is official, the Fremont city council chose Kris Kobach last night during the meeting to represent the city in federal court in order to defend the ordinance that would prohibit illegal aliens from working or renting property within the city.
In front of a capacity crowd, the council heard residents on all sides of the issue as it made its decision to suspend the ordinance. This was done to avoid a lawsuit with both the American Civil Liberties Union and the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund.
After the council voted unanimously to stop implementation of the ordinance, they turned their attention to choosing an attorney. People at the Municipal Building voiced their support for Kobach…citing his resume. Petioner John Wiegart.
After hearing testimony from residents, the council went into closed executive session for 13 minutes before coming back out to vote unanimously in choosing Kobach.
Kobach authored the Illegal Immigration law in Arizona.
