The American Association announced this week that Saltdogs outfielder Argelis Nunez has been named the league’s Player of the Week for July 19-25. Nunez has now won the weekly award twice this season.
The Saltdogs’ cleanup hitter went on a tear last week, homering in four straight games between July 20 and 23, capping his streak with a two-homer game on July 23 against Sioux Falls. Nunez drove in 13 runs during the week, and leads the Saltdogs in both home runs (15) and RBI (55) on the season. His home run total has him tied for fourth in the American Association.
The Saltdogs have now earned four weekly honors from the American Association. Nunez earned Player of the Week honors for the week of May 24-30, and Tim Brown earned Pitcher of the Week honors that same week. In June, Shawn McGill earned Player of the Week honors for June 17-23. The Saltdogs have captured 24 Player or Pitcher of the Week awards in the five-year history of the American Association.
