The Lincoln Saltdogs dropped their series opener in Sioux Falls on Sunday, losing 4-1 and falling to 10-15 in the second half after Lincoln starter Nick Tyson (0-1) allowed just two earned runs over his seven innings of work.
Sioux Falls starter Ryan Shaver (7-0) pitched six shutout innings. The Pheasants took the early lead with a first-inning run, but Lincoln tied it in the fourth when Brandon Jones scored on a fielding error.
Sioux Falls took the lead for good in the fifth, plating their second run of the night. The Pheasants added an unearned run in the seventh, but the Saltdogs put together their biggest threat in the top of the eighth, loading the bases with only one out. Lincoln failed to score in the inning, however, and a Trevor Lawhorn solo home run in the bottom of the eighth sealed the deal for Lincoln.
